Introduction

The Jaipur Luxuriance (TJL) is a premium furniture brand built for the local Jaipur market and the pan-India luxury consumer, launched by Shafiqa Handicrafts, an established furniture export house. We designed the brand positioning, operational architecture, organisational design, and system transformation needed to take a world-class export manufacturer into retail.

Challenges

Challenges

Shafiqa Handicrafts had spent years producing exceptional furniture for international luxury clients. The craft knowledge, design intelligence, and production standard that global buyers were paying a premium for was entirely Shafiqa’s. But the export model meant Shafiqa was lending that capability to other people’s brands rather than building one of its own.

The craft knowledge, design intelligence, and production standard that global buyers were paying a premium for was entirely Shafiqa’s. But the export model meant Shafiqa was lending that capability to other people’s brands rather than building one of its own.

The decision to launch TJL was a fundamental strategic shift: from export house to retail brand, from B2B to B2C, from operating in markets where the buyer came to them to building the infrastructure to reach a consumer who had never heard of them and had no shortage of alternatives. The product capability existed. Everything else needed to be built from the ground up.

Our Process

Our Process

Cultural and behavioural research revealed two distinct but compatible audiences. The Jaipur luxury buyer carried a deep relationship to craft and heritage shaped by the city’s history as a centre of royal patronage. The pan-India luxury consumer wanted contemporary design with genuine Indian roots, not nostalgia. TJL was positioned to speak authentically to both without diluting itself for either. The operational architecture redesigned production capability for the local market, built D2C distribution from scratch, and structured the supply chain to meet TJL’s quality standard consistently across every piece.

Organisational design defined the structure, roles, and capability development framework needed to run a luxury retail brand within an export business. System transformation mapped the precise transition pathway between the two operating models, building TJL’s capability progressively without disrupting the export business funding it. Every system that touched the new business was redesigned around the requirements of the luxury retail model rather than adapted from the export model it was replacing.

Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts

TJL gives Shafiqa direct ownership of a consumer relationship and a brand in one of the world’s fastest-growing luxury markets. The export model is inherently dependent. International buyers set the terms, define the specifications, and hold the relationship with the end consumer.

TJL changes that entirely. The Jaipur Luxuriance is not a side project. It is Shafiqa’s future, built as an independent retail identity with the systems to support it.
